The Albatros Counselling Center Brandenburg

We are a project of the non-profit organization Albatros gGmbH

Non-profit status in Germany means that an organization works for the benefit of the general public. Such organizations exist to help people, address social problems, or support important social, cultural, or environmental goals. Unlike commercial enterprises, non-profit organizations do not aim to generate profits for owners or managing directors; instead, all income is used to serve the non-profit purpose.

At the Albatros Counseling Center Brandenburg, we are committed to supporting the integration of people who have fled to Germany and now live in Brandenburg. Since our project is co-financed by the European Union and the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Brandenburg, all of our services are free of charge for our clients.

FUNDING

As part of our project, we implement four core measures:

1. Native-Language Psychosocial Counseling

Finding your way in a new country with a new language and a different culture is always challenging. If you have been forced to leave your home, had to flee, suffered serious personal losses, witnessed or experienced traumatic events, lost your home and livelihood, fear for friends and relatives, or regularly hear distressing news from your home country or the new country, arriving and settling in becomes even more difficult.

We provide help and support in the client’s native language. We listen without prejudice, support, accompany, and connect our clients so that they can move forward on their new path with strength and confidence. It goes without saying that everything you entrust to us is treated with strict confidentiality and will not be shared with anyone else.

2. Native-Language Assessment of Special Protection Needs

Some of our clients have experienced such severe life events that they require a particularly high level of support. These special needs may affect asylum or recognition procedures, justify specialized therapeutic support, or influence accommodation and security of care.

As part of our diagnostic process, we assess whether special needs exist and, if so, which ones. The statements we prepare can be used by our clients to obtain the additional support they require.

3. Native-Language Health Counseling

We provide information about access to the German healthcare system and about legal entitlements related to healthcare services. In addition, we cover various topics such as hygiene in shared accommodations, modes of disease transmission, stress reduction, everyday fitness, and much more.

4. Training Programs

We offer training programs for staff of public authorities, job centers, schools, migration social services, and other stakeholders. Our focus topics include:

•            Communication and interaction with vulnerable people from different countries of origin

•            Handling critical or conflict-prone conversation situations

We look forward to receiving your inquiry.

Contact

Because we provide our first three project measures in clients’ native languages (currently 14 languages), it becomes clear that our international team of professionals knows exactly what they are talking about with their clients. Every colleague has also migrated to Germany, and some were forced to flee as well. As a result, they have a deep understanding based on personal experience of their clients’ situations.
